Pakistan middle order batsman Fawad Alam believes Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir were the country’s “two premier pacers” after the early 2000s.

Asif and Amir formed an excellent partnership and tormented batsmen all over the world.

However, both of their careers came to a screeching halt when they were indicted in the 2010 spot-fixing scandal that rocked the cricketing world.

Asif and Amir were banned for five years, but while Amir got the chance to play for Pakistan again, Asif never made an international comeback.

Before all that happened, Fawad recalled how the duo were Pakistan’s best fast bowlers for a period of time as they swung the ball both ways and had a variety of different deliveries they could unleash, which left opposition batsmen unsure of what would come next.

“After Mohammad Asif – I mean after the early 2000s when we had big names – the two premier pacers we had were Asif and then Mohammad Amir,” he was quoted as saying by A Sports.

Amir was recently in action in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and took 13 wickets in nine matches for the Quetta Gladiators at an average of 18.07 and an economy rate of 7.79.

Since he is no longer playing international cricket, he was not considered for selection for Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which they won 3-0.

The men in green are now touring Bangladesh for another three-match T20I series, where they trail 2-0 going into the 3rd T20I on July 24 in Mirpur.

Pakistan Squad for Bangladesh T20I Series: Salman Ali Agha (captain), Abrar Ahmed, Ahmed Daniyal, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Hasan Nawaz, Hussain Talat, Khushdil Shah, Abbas Afridi, Mohammad Haris (wicketkeeper), Mohammad Nawaz, Sahibzada Farhan (wicketkeeper), Saim Ayub, Salman Mirza and Sufiyan Muqeem
