Pakistan top order batsman Abdullah Shafique is determined to live up to Babar Azam’s expectations by posting plenty of big scores.

Shafique has been in and out of the national team lately, but he did feature in the recent three-match ODI series against New Zealand, where he made 70 runs at an average of 23.33.

Following this, the 25-year-old had an excellent campaign in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he helped the Lahore Qalandars win the title.

The Sialkot native finished PSL 10 as the fourth-highest run-scorer with 390 runs in 13 matches, which included three fifties, at an average of 32.50 and a strike-rate of 148.28.

Having shown good form in the PSL, Shafique is eager to maintain his newfound momentum.

“Babar’s words mean a lot to me. I hope to live up to his expectations and perform to the best of my abilities,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

After PSL 10, Pakistan faced Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series and triumphed 3-0.

The men in green are now touring Bangladesh for another three-match T20I series, but are already 2-0 down going into the 3rd T20I on July 24 in Mirpur.
