Shoaib Akhtar: “Amir is the best fast bowler we have ever had when it comes to using his brain”

Iconic pacer Shoaib Akhtar believes left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir was Pakistan’s best fast bowler “when it comes to using his brain”.
He noted that Amir has an excellent understanding of everything, including field placements and bowling according to match situations.
In addition to this, the Rawalpindi Express praised Amir for being able to adapt his game, including knowing what line and length to bowl to different batsmen.
“The quality Amir had back then is still the same today. Amir is the best fast bowler we have ever had when it comes to using his brain,” Akhtar was quoted as saying by A Sports.
“He understands field placements, match situations, and adapts accordingly. He knows exactly which line and length to bowl and how to set up the field to support his bowling.”
Amir was recently in action in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and picked up 13 wickets in nine matches for the Quetta Gladiators at an average of 18.07 and an economy rate of 7.79.
Since the 33-year-old has retired from international cricket, he was not selected for Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which the men in green won 3-0.
Pakistan are now touring Bangladesh and playing three T20Is in Mirpur.
They lost the 1st T20I by seven wickets and will look to level the series in the 2nd T20I on July 22.
