Pakistan batsman Abdullah Shafique: “I didn’t perform well in some of my recent games, but I have learned a lot from those experiences. Tagging a player as a red-ball or white-ball specialist isn’t fair. A cricketer should be capable of playing all formats”

Pakistan batsman Abdullah Shafique has made it clear that he is capable of playing all three forms of the game and doesn’t want to be known as a specialist in just one particular format.
Shafique has represented his country in 22 Tests, 24 ODIs and six T20Is, but his inability to score runs consistently has become a cause for concern.
The 25-year-old recently featured in a three-match ODI series against New Zealand and made 70 runs at an average of 23.33.
“I didn’t perform well in some of my recent games, but I have learned a lot from those experiences. Tagging a player as a red-ball or white-ball specialist isn’t fair. A cricketer should be capable of playing all formats,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
After the New Zealand tour, Shafique represented the Lahore Qalandars in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and played an instrumental role in helping them win the title as he was the fourth-highest run-scorer with 390 runs in 13 matches, which included three fifties, at an average of 32.50 and a strike-rate of 148.28.
Despite his strong campaign in PSL 10, Shafique was not selected for Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which the men in green won 3-0.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which will take place in Mirpur from July 20 to 24.
