Iconic Pakistan spinner Mushtaq Ahmed has backed Babar Azam to become “mentally tougher” and produce stronger performances when he breaks out of his current rough patch.

Azam has been working hard to get back to his best and has shown signs of becoming the consistent run-scorer he once was.

During the three-match ODI series against New Zealand, the 30-year-old amassed 129 runs, which included two fifties, at an average of 43.

He then proceeded to captain the Peshawar Zalmi in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and accumulated 288 runs in 10 games, which included three fifties, at an average of 36 and a strike-rate of 128.57.

“Babar Azam will become more mentally tougher and come up with more strong performances once gets out of his bad patch,” Mushtaq was quoted as saying by journalist Arfa Feroz Zake on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Following PSL 10, Pakistan faced Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series, but Azam was not among the players picked.

The men in green won the series 3-0.
