Rashid Latif: “Saud Shakeel and Tayyab Tahir will perform when the main players step up”

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif believes batsmen Saud Shakeel and Tayyab Tahir will only perform well “when the main players step up”.
Shakeel and Tahir have been part of the national team recently, but their opportunities to play have been sporadic.
In order to get more out of them, Latif noted that the key members of the side have to step up and make their presence felt. This will give both batsmen confidence and result in them putting up more impressive performances.
“Saud Shakeel and Tayyab Tahir will perform when the main players step up,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Recently, Shakeel captained the Quetta Gladiators in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and scored 237 runs in 12 matches, which included a top score of 59, at an average of 26.33 and a strike-rate of 117.32.
Tahir played for the Multan Sultans and amassed 58 runs in three games at an average of 29 and a strike-rate of 138.09.
After PSL 10, Pakistan went up against Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series, but neither Shakeel nor Tahir were included in the team.
The men in green won the series 3-0.
