Former Pakistan left-arm speedster Sohail Tanvir has slammed power-hitter Asif Ali, saying he “has zero technique” and “just swings his bat”.
Tanvir was especially angry with the Lahore Qalandars’ decision to let Asif open the batting during the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL), especially since he normally plays as a middle order batsman.
The 33-year-old from Faisalabad finished the tournament with 41 runs in nine matches at a dismal average of 8.20 and a strike-rate of 170.83.
“You sent Asif Ali to open, who has zero technique. He is not a technically sound batter, but only a power-hitter. I personally witnessed his technique in the nets; he just swings his bat,” Tanvir was quoted as saying by A Sports.
After PSL 10, Pakistan took on Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series, but Asif was not selected in the squad.
The men in green won the series 3-0.
