West Indies batting icon Sir Viv Richards thinks Pakistan batsman Saud Shakeel has potential as captain, but is still learning.
Richards’ comments come after Shakeel captained the Quetta Gladiators in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and led them to the final, where they lost to the Lahore Qalandars.
The 29-year-old ended the tournament with 237 runs in 12 matches, which included a top score of 59, at an average of 26.33 and a strike-rate of 117.32.
It should also be noted that Shakeel is currently Pakistan’s Test vice-captain and has become an integral part of the side as he has brought much-needed stability to the middle order.
“Saud Shakeel is still a young captain and is currently learning,” Richards told Cricket Pakistan.
Following PSL 10, Pakistan took on Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series, but Shakeel was not included in the team.
The men in green won the series 3-0.
