Pakistan left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir decided to retire from international cricket after the 2024 T20 World Cup as “no one told me if I was part of the future plans”.

He noted that the lack of communication made it clear in his mind that he was done in the national team.

Amir had previously retired in December 2020, but came out of retirement to represent his country in the T20 World Cup, where he was one of Pakistan’s most successful bowlers with seven wickets in four matches at an average of 10.28 and an economy rate of 4.50.

“After the T20 World Cup ended, no one even talked to me. No one told me if I was part of the future plans. A wise person understands the signs – if you’re not in the plans, then you have to think about yourself. That’s exactly what I did. I’ve made up my mind now – thank you very much, international cricket,” the 33-year-old was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Amir recently featured in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and claimed 13 wickets in nine games for the Quetta Gladiators at an average of 18.07 and an economy rate of 7.79.

Since he no longer plays international cricket, he wasn’t selected for Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which occurred right after the conclusion of PSL 10.

The men in green won the series 3-0.
