Pakistan big-hitter Shahid Afridi: “If I had influence, I’d be the PCB chairman today”

Legendary power-hitter Shahid Afridi has revealed that he if he had influence, he would be chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) today.
Afridi made it clear that he is not interested in holding the top role in the board as he would prefer to “work at the grassroots level”.
“It wouldn’t suit me if I went to the PCB and asked them to make me the next chairman. I don’t even need a contract from the PCB. If I ever join, it will be for Pakistan and the players, because I want to work at the grassroots level. If I had influence, I’d be the PCB chairman today,” the 45-year-old was quoted as saying by A Sports.
The Pakistan team have not been in the best of form lately as they were knocked out in the group stage of the 2025 Champions Trophy after failing to win a single game throughout their campaign.
Afterwards, they embarked on a white-ball tour of New Zealand and were thumped 4-1 in the T20I series before being whitewashed 3-0 in the ODIs.
Many of the national players were then involved in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL), which the Lahore Qalandars won.
Following PSL 10, Pakistan’s dismal streak in international cricket finally took a turn for the better as they crushed Bangladesh 3-0 in a T20I series.
