Iconic Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has advised Babar Azam to “be patient and smart” when batting.
Azam has been struggling to score runs consistently, which has hurt the men in green as he is supposed to be the spearhead of the batting line-up.
Inzamam noted that Azam has “all the cricket shots” and thus needs to be strategic in picking which bowler to target.
“Babar, you already have all the cricket shots. But to win more matches, you need to wait for the right bowler and the right moment. Don’t try to hit every ball – be patient and smart,” the 55-year-old from Multan was quoted as saying by A Sports.
Azam recently played in Pakistan’s three-match ODI series against New Zealand and amassed 129 runs, which included two half-centuries, at an average of 43.
The 30-year-old then captained the Peshawar Zalmi in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and scored 288 runs in 10 games, which included three fifties, at an average of 36 and a strike-rate of 128.57.
Following PSL 10, Pakistan faced Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series, but Azam was not included in the team.
The men in green won the series 3-0.
