Former Namibia cricketer David Wiese has admitted that he was “a little bit scared” when he saw Pakistan all-rounder Jahandad Khan get called up to the national team for the first time.

Explaining why, Wiese felt that the 21-year-old was too inexperienced and needed “to learn quite a bit”.

Jahandad made his international debut in November 2024 and has gone on to represent his country in eight T20Is.

In those eight games, he has mustered 29 runs at an average of 7.25 and a strike-rate of 85.29, while also taking seven wickets at an average of 30.14 and an economy rate of 11.72.

Recently, he was involved in Pakistan’s five-match T20I series against New Zealand and accumulated 18 runs in three games at an average of six and a strike-rate of 85.71.

He also picked up one wicket at an average of 82 and an economy rate of 19.68.

Following this, he played with Wiese for the Lahore Qalandars in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL), but didn’t score any runs or claim any wickets in the two games he took part in.

“It was a bit of a surprise when I saw him getting called up. I was a little bit scared that it might be a little bit early for him. You know he’s still [got] a lot of talent and he still needs to learn quite a bit,” Wiese told PakPassion.

Once PSL 10 ended, Pakistan took on Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series, but Jahandad was not part of the squad.

The men in green won the series 3-0.
