Shadab Khan: “Yes I am learning a lot from Saqlain Mushtaq because of his strong cricket coaching background. But it does not mean he is doing me favours”

Pakistan T20I vice-captain Shadab Khan has made it clear that Saqlain Mushtaq is not doing him any favours, even though he is training with the legendary spinner.
Shadab had previously been Pakistan’s go-to spinner in white-ball cricket, but ended up being dropped from the team due to a lack of wickets.
In order to get his bowling back in order, the 26-year-old decided to work with Saqlain, who is his father-in-law.
“It is frustrating and disappointing to hear such things because my career is nearly seven years long. I have given some good performances since debuting for Pakistan. Yes I am learning a lot from Saqlain Mushtaq because of his strong cricket coaching background. But it does not mean he is doing me favours,” the Mianwali native was quoted as saying by respected journalist Saj Sadiq on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Recently, Shadab featured in Pakistan’s five-match T20I series against New Zealand and took one wicket at an average of 143 and an economy rate of 11.
He fared a lot better while captaining Islamabad United in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) as he claimed 14 wickets in 10 games at an average of 16.57 and an economy rate of 7.90.
Following PSL 10, Shadab represented Pakistan in a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh and finished with four wickets at an average of 16.25 and an economy rate of 7.22.
The men in green won the series 3-0.
