Pakistan ODI captain Mohammad Rizwan has made it clear that he is “not even one percent ashamed that I can’t speak English”.
Rizwan has been criticised in the past for his English speaking skills, while others have made fun of him too.
However, the 33-year-old from Peshawar noted that he doesn’t care about being trolled as whatever he says is “from the heart”.
“I don’t care about trolling. I am proud of one thing – that whatever I say, I speak from the heart. And by the grace of Almighty Allah, I don’t know English. The only regret I have is that I couldn’t get more education. But I am not even one percent ashamed that I can’t speak English, even as the captain of Pakistan,” Rizwan was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
“The demand from me is to play cricket, not to speak English. If Pakistan ever asks me to speak English instead of playing cricket, I’ll leave cricket and become a professor – but I don’t have that kind of time.
“We should speak Urdu. But sometimes we feel confident enough to explain what we want to say in English.”
Rizwan recently captained the national team in a three-match ODI series against New Zealand and made 72 runs at an average of 24.
He then led the Multan Sultans in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and amassed 367 runs in 10 games, which included a century and a fifty, at an average of 52.42 and a strike-rate of 139.54.
Following PSL 10, Pakistan took on Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series, but Rizwan was not included in the squad.
The men in green won the series 3-0.
