Former Pakistan batsman Basit Ali has slammed Mohammad Rizwan for his poor captaincy in ODI cricket, saying it’s similar to “school cricket”.
Basit noted that during Pakistan’s three-match ODI series against New Zealand earlier this year, Rizwan didn’t “even know who to bowl at what overs”.
In that series, the 33-year-old from Peshawar scored 72 runs in three matches at an average of 24.
“His captaincy was so bad, he doesn’t even know who to bowl at what overs. It’s like school cricket,” Basit said on his YouTube channel as quoted by NDTV.
Following the New Zealand series, Rizwan captained the Multan Sultans in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and amassed 367 runs in 10 games, which included a century and a fifty, at an average of 52.42 and a strike-rate of 139.54.
Despite doing well in PSL 10, Rizwan was not selected for Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which the men in green won 3-0.
