Shahid Afridi: “Mohammad Yousuf was teaching a player that an off-stump ball should be played on the off-side, and a middle-stump ball should be played straight. It seemed as though it was an under-14 team, not the Pakistan team”

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has lashed out at the national team, saying it looks as if batting coach Mohammad Yousuf is teaching an Under-14 side.
Afridi noted that Yousuf was “was teaching a player that an off-stump ball should be played on the off-side, and a middle-stump ball should be played straight”.
Expressing his disbelief, the renowned power-hitter pointed out that players should have already mastered the basics of batting when they are in the Pakistan team.
“The other day I came across a clip where Mohammad Yousuf was teaching a player that an off-stump ball should be played on the off-side, and a middle-stump ball should be played straight. It seemed as though it was an under-14 team, not the Pakistan team. The Pakistan team is a place for performance, not for learning and teaching. These things should happen earlier,” Afridi was quoted as saying by respected journalist Saj Sadiq on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The Pakistan team have suffered a series of disastrous results lately as they were dumped out in the group stage of the 2025 Champions Trophy after going winless.
They then went to New Zealand and suffered a 4-1 defeat in the T20I series before being demolished 3-0 in the ODIs.
Afterwards, many of the players were involved in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL), which the Lahore Qalandars won.
Right now, Pakistan are facing Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series, which they lead 1-0 after winning the 1st T20I by 37 runs.
The 2nd T20I will be held on May 30 in Lahore.
