Have some guts, Ahmed Shehzad tells Pakistan star to quit if he can’t show any fight

Ahmed Shehzad said Mohammad Rizwan must have some guts and fight or resign as Pakistan ODI captain

Ahmed Shehzad: “Have some guts! You’ve had enough time, but things are still slipping out of your control. The situation is deteriorating, you’re not showing any fight, and you’re not picking the right playing XI. If you can’t do it, then resign as captain”

Pakistan batsman Ahmed Shehzad has called on ODI captain Mohammad Rizwan to “have some guts” by showing some fight and picking the “right playing XI” in matches.

He noted that if Rizwan can’t do this, he should resign as captain.

Shehzad’s comments come after Pakistan lost their last ODI assignment, which was a three-match series against New Zealand, 3-0.

In that series, Rizwan scored 72 runs at an average of 24.

“Have some guts! You’ve had enough time, but things are still slipping out of your control. The situation is deteriorating, you’re not showing any fight, and you’re not picking the right playing XI. If you can’t do it, then resign as captain – you don’t have the ability,” Shehzad was quoted as saying by TOK Sports on X, formerly known as Twitter.

After the New Zealand tour, Rizwan captained the Multan Sultans in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and made 367 runs in 10 matches, which included a century and a fifty, at an average of 52.42 and a strike-rate of 139.54.

Even though he did well in PSL 10, Rizwan was not selected for Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which the men in green won 3-0.

Pakistan Squad for Bangladesh T20I Series: Salman Ali Agha (captain), Shadab Khan (vice-captain), Abbas Afridi, Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Hassan Nawaz, Hussain Talat, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Haris (wicketkeeper), Muhammad Irfan Khan, Naseem Shah, Sahibzada Farhan (wicketkeeper) and Saim Ayub

  1. I don’t know in which capacity Ahmed Shahzad used to comment/criticize on those players who have a much better performance record compared to him. Ahmed Shahzad was a failed, untrustworthy, and selfish player. Throughout his stay in the National Team, it was only due to chit-chat, backing, and manipulation.”
