Pakistan left-arm fast bowler Mohammad Amir believes big-hitting batsman Mohammad Haris should captain the country in Tests and ODIs.
He noted that Haris has been captaining the Pakistan Shaheens, which is effectively the A team.
The 24-year-old has also been building his leadership experience in domestic cricket as he has been in charge of sides like the Stallions in the Champions T20 Cup, whom he led to the title.
While hyping up Haris, Amir also hinted that Salman Ali Agha is not the right man to be captaining Pakistan in T20Is.
“Haris is captaining everywhere. He led the Pakistan Shaheens, and he also captained in the Champions Cup. Agha Salman is a very good cricketer, but if you wanted to bring in a new captain for ODIs and Tests, you should have chosen Mohammad Haris because he has been groomed everywhere as a captain,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Haris recently featured in Pakistan’s five-match T20I series against New Zealand, but didn’t live up to expectations with the bat as he was limited to 65 runs at an average of 13 and a strike-rate of 118.18.
However, he performed better in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) as he accumulated 247 runs in 10 games for the Peshawar Zalmi, which included a top score of 87, at an average of 27.44 and a strike-rate of 148.79.
Despite a solid outing with the bat, the Zalmi failed to qualify for the playoffs.
Haris will now represent Pakistan in their three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which will take place in Lahore from May 28 to June 1.
