Pakistan left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir has called out pace icon Wasim Akram for saying the national players are eating more bananas than monkeys do.
Wasim said this when criticising the players’ diet.
However, Amir took exception to Wasim’s remarks, saying the Sultan of Swing “can’t say such things about players”.
“I also mentioned Wasim Akram, who said that even monkeys don’t eat as many bananas as [the] Pakistani players are consuming. You can’t say such things about players,” he was quoted as saying by TOK Sports on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Pakistan have failed to get the results expected of them lately as they were knocked out in the group stage of the 2025 Champions Trophy after going winless.
After this, they toured New Zealand and were crushed 4-1 in the T20Is before being whitewashed 3-0 in the ODIs.
Many players, including Amir, have been involved in the ongoing 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL), which has now advanced to the playoffs stage.
In eight games for the Quetta Gladiators, Amir has taken 12 wickets at an average of 16.16 and an economy rate of 7.41.
The Gladiators have qualified for the final of PSL 10 and will face the Lahore Qalandars on May 25.
Once PSL 10 ends, Pakistan and Bangladesh will go head to head in a three-match T20I series in Lahore from May 28 to June 1.
