Pakistan left-arm speedster Mohammad Amir has announced that he will be eligible to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2026.
Currently, no Pakistani players are permitted to feature in the IPL due to ongoing political tensions.
However, with Amir set to become a British citizen, this would allow him to take part in the star-studded competition.
“By next year, I will have the opportunity to play in the IPL, and if given the chance, then why not? I will play in the IPL,” the 33-year-old from Gujar Khan was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Since Amir has retired from international cricket, he didn’t feature in the 2025 Champions Trophy.
He also wasn’t considered for selection for Pakistan’s limited overs tour of New Zealand, where the men in green were thumped 4-1 in the T20Is and whitewashed 3-0 in the ODIs.
Currently, he is playing for the Quetta Gladiators in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and has taken 12 wickets in eight games at an average of 16.16 and an economy rate of 7.41.
The Gladiators will face the Lahore Qalandars in the PSL final on May 25.
After this, Pakistan will be back in action as they will take on Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series, which will be played in Lahore from May 28 to June 1.
