Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has taken a shot at batsman Babar Azam, saying he only scores against smaller teams.
Azam has found it tough to score runs on a consistent basis lately, which has led to an increasing amount of criticism being directed at him.
During the ODI tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa, he mustered 62 runs in three matches at an average of 20.66.
He then proceeded to score 87 runs in two matches in the 2025 Champions Trophy, which included a top score of 64, at an average of 43.50.
Following this, he was involved in Pakistan’s ODI series against New Zealand and struck 129 runs in three matches, which included two fifties, at an average of 43.
“Babar has not scored runs for so long. But when he scores, it is against Zimbabwe or against smaller teams,” Kaneria told ANI as quoted by NDTV.
Azam is now captaining the Peshawar Zalmi in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and has made 105 runs in five games, which includes a top score of 56 not out, at an average of 26.25 and a strike-rate of 112.90.
PSL 10 began on April 11 and will finish on May 18.
