Former Pakistan cricketer Bazid Khan has praised batsman Babar Azam, saying if he is “not the king, he is the GOAT (greatest of all time) then”.
Bazid’s comments come after Azam urged people to stop calling him a king.
The 30-year-old has broken many records during his international career and is currently trying to get back in form after a prolonged period of not being able to score runs consistently.
During Pakistan’s ODI tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa, he accumulated 62 runs in three matches at an average of 20.66.
Azam was then involved in the 2025 Champions Trophy and finished with 87 runs in two games, which included a top score of 64, at an average of 43.50.
“If Babar Azam is not the king, he is the GOAT (greatest of all time) then,” Bazid was quoted as saying by journalist Farid Khan on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Pakistan lost to New Zealand and India in the Champions Trophy, which led to them getting knocked out in the group stage.
Their final match against Bangladesh was abandoned due to rain.
Pakistan are now playing a white-ball series against New Zealand that consists of five T20Is and three ODIs.
Azam was not picked for the ongoing T20I series, where the men in green find themselves trailing 2-1 going into the 4th T20I on March 23 in Mount Maunganui.
However, he has been included in the team for the ODIs, which begin on March 29 in Napier.
