Pakistan cricketer Ahmed Shehzad believes young wicketkeeper-batsman Haseebullah Khan is being mistreated as he is not being given the opportunity to “play in his position”.

Haseebullah generally opens the batting in domestic cricket, but in the three T20Is he has played for Pakistan, he has batted as an opener, at number seven, and number three.

As for the one ODI he featured in, he batted at number six.

Shehzad noted that since the 21-year-old is constantly being moved up and down the batting order, people cannot complain when he fails to perform.

“You are mistreating Haseebullah. You aren’t letting him play in his position, and then you complain that despite so many matches, there has been no performance from him,” he was quoted as saying by TOK Sports on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Haseebullah wasn’t picked for Pakistan’s ODI tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa, where the men in green lost to the Black Caps in the final.

He also failed to make the cut for the 2025 Champions Trophy, where Pakistan were eliminated in the group stage of the tournament.

Pakistan lost to New Zealand and India, while their final group stage match against Bangladesh was abandoned due to rain.

Pakistan Squad for 2025 Champions Trophy: Mohammad Rizwan (captain and wicketkeeper), Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Kamran Ghulam, Saud Shakeel, Tayyab Tahir, Faheem Ashraf, Khushdil Shah, Salman Ali Agha, Usman Khan, Abrar Ahmed, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Hasnain, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah
