Pakistan left-arm speedster Mohammad Amir has predicted that batsman Babar Azam “will perform” in the ongoing 2025 Champions Trophy.
Azam has been struggling to score runs consistently and recently featured in an ODI tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa, where he failed to have much of an impact.
In three games, the 30-year-old accumulated 62 runs at an average of 20.66.
However, Azam did do well in the opening game of the Champions Trophy against New Zealand, making 64 runs off 90 balls, which included six boundaries and a six.
Having gotten off to a strong start with the bat, Amir has backed the Lahore native to keep the runs flowing for the remainder of the tournament.
“Don’t worry everyone. Pakistan team and Babar Azam will perform in [the] Champions Trophy Insha Allah. Mark my words,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Pakistan’s next Champions Trophy match will be against India on February 23 in Dubai.
