Pakistan opening batsman Awais Zia has urged the selectors not to “waste a good bowler” like Akif Javed.
The 24-year-old seamer has been in red-hot form lately as he was the joint third-highest wicket-taker in the Champions T20 Cup with 15 wickets in 10 matches for the Markhors at an average of 20.86.
He then represented the Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and finished as the joint second-highest wicket-taker with 20 wickets in 11 games at an average of 14.30.
Akif has yet to make his international debut, but given how good his bowling has been, Awais hopes the national selectors don’t wait too long to give him a chance.
“Feed him or you will waste a good bowler,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The Pakistan team recently took on New Zealand and South Africa in an ODI tri-series, where they made it to the final before losing to the Black Caps.
Currently, the men in green are playing in the 2025 Champions Trophy and lost their opening game against New Zealand by 60 runs.
Pakistan’s next match will be against India on February 23 in Dubai.
