Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali doesn’t think batsman Babar Azam will be dropped from the national team if he fails to perform at the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Azam has struggled to score runs consistently as of late and his form going into the tournament has not been very convincing.

In the ODI tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa, the 30-year-old mustered 62 runs at an average of 20.66.

With the Champions Trophy right around the corner, Basit hopes Azam does well in the competition, but knows the selectors won’t axe him if he has a poor campaign.

“Babar’s position in the team will remain unaffected, irrespective of his performance in the Champions Trophy,” he said on his YouTube channel as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

The Champions Trophy will take place from February 19 to March 9.
