Pakistan middle order batsman Saud Shakeel said he is “very good” at playing spin since he has worked on it from childhood.
In addition to batting against spin, he also put strike rotation among his list of strengths.
Shakeel has brought a lot of stability to Pakistan’s middle order in Test cricket, which was much-needed as it used to be an area of concern for a prolonged period of time.
Recently, the 29-year-old scored 121 runs in two Tests against South Africa, which included a top score of 84, at an average of 30.25.
He also had a solid showing in the two-Test series against the West Indies, amassing 131 runs, which once again included a top score of 84, at an average of 32.75.
“I am very good at spin because from childhood I have been playing in Karachi and there are spin conditions. Taking singles and rotating strike is my strength. I have worked very hard on it and I am still working on it,” Shakeel was quoted as saying on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Shakeel is now part of Pakistan’s squad for the ongoing tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa.
He was also picked for the 2025 Champions Trophy, which will be played from February 19 to March 9.
