Australia captain Pat Cummins has admitted that Pakistan batsman Babar Azam has always been a nightmare for his side.
He noted that Azam is such a good batsman, to the extent that he and his Australian teammates discuss “how Pakistan produced such a gem”.
Azam was recently involved in a multi-format series in South Africa and began by scoring 31 runs in two T20Is at an average of 15.50.
He followed it up with 148 runs in three ODIs, which included two fifties, at an average of 49.33.
As for the two-Test series, the 30-year-old finished as Pakistan’s highest run-scorer with 193 runs, which included three half-centuries, at an average of 48.25.
He then featured in a two-Test series against the West Indies in Multan, but failed to maintain his momentum as he only managed to make 45 runs at an average of 11.25.
“Babar Azam is the guy who has been a nightmare for us. We always discuss about him how Pakistan produced such a gem,” Cummins was quoted as saying on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Azam is currently in action in Pakistan’s ODI tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa.
He began by scoring 10 runs in the opening game against New Zealand, which the men in green lost by 78 runs.
After this, Pakistan will feature in the 2025 Champions Trophy, which will be held from February 19 to March 9.
