Pakistan big-hitting batsman Sohaib Maqsood thinks fast bowler Mohammad Ali should be considered for selection in white-ball cricket and the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Ali has been in fabulous form lately and recently featured in the Champions T20 Cup, where he has the highest wicket-taker with 22 wickets in nine matches for the Stallions at an average of 9.72 and an economy rate of 6.20.
Given his outstanding performance in the Champions T20 Cup, Maqsood feels the 32-year-old from Sialkot could be the perfect back-up for the pace trio of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah in the national team.
“Mohammad Ali should also be considered for white-ball selection, maybe also for [the] Champions Trophy as [a] [back-up] bowler to Shaheen, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Pakistan recently toured Australia and won the ODI series 2-1 before being whitewashed 3-0 in the T20Is.
The men in green then travelled to Zimbabwe and came away with a 2-1 win in both the ODI and T20I series.
As for their tour of South Africa, Pakistan lost the T20I series 2-0 before rebounding to secure a 3-0 victory in the ODIs.
In the two-Test series, the men in green were beaten 2-0.
Pakistan are now taking on the West Indies in a two-Test series, which they lead 1-0 after winning the 1st Test in Multan by 127 runs.
The 2nd Test began on January 25 in Multan.
