Former Pakistan batsman Basit Ali has praised fast bowler Mohammad Abbas, saying the world saw he “still has the potential”.
Basit’s comments come after Abbas made his Test comeback in the two-match series against South Africa, where he ended up being Pakistan’s best bowler.
The 34-year-old took 10 wickets in the series, which included a career-best 6-54 in the 1st Test in Centurion, at an average of 24.60.
Considering how well Abbas performed after being away from international cricket for three years, Basit noted that he can still be a major asset for the men in green, “especially on lively pitches”.
“The world saw that Abbas still has the potential, especially on lively pitches,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Pakistan are now facing the West Indies in a two-Test series, but Abbas was not included in the squad that was announced.
The men in green won the 1st Test by 127 runs and will look to complete a 2-0 whitewash in the 2nd Test, which gets underway on January 25 in Multan.
