Former Pakistan batsman Yasir Hameed has picked mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed to be a “trump card” during the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Abrar was initially only used in Test cricket, but has started being picked in limited overs cricket recently and shown that he can be incredibly useful.
The 26-year-old took six wickets in two ODIs against Zimbabwe at an average of 13 before following it up with four wickets in two T20Is at an average of 12.25.
Pakistan then toured South Africa and in the three-match T20I series, Abrar claimed three wickets in two games at an average of 22.
In the ODIs, he finished with four wickets in two matches at an average of 20.
With Abrar capable of deceiving batsmen given the vast number of variations he has, Hameed thinks he could be very successful in the Champions Trophy, which will be held from February 19 to March 9.
“He could be [a] trump card in [the] Champions Trophy,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Pakistan are now playing a two-Test series against the West Indies and in the 1st Test in Multan, he took five wickets in total, with four coming in the 2nd innings.
The men in green won the 1st Test by 127 runs and hold a 1-0 lead going into the 2nd Test, which begins on January 25 in Multan.
