Sohaib Maqsood: “Please show some more trust on Aamer Jamal. As [a] bowler lately, we have seen he isn’t bowling as much as a bowler who bowls around 90 miles should bowl”

Pakistan batsman Sohaib Maqsood wants to see speedster Aamer Jamal utilised properly as he believes the 28-year-old is not bowling as much as a 90 mph bowler should.

Jamal showed plenty of promise in his debut Test series against Australia from December 2023 to January 2024, but hasn’t been able to replicate that level of success in his subsequent matches.

Recently, the Mianwali native was in action in the two-Test series against South Africa and took two wickets at an average of 78.50.

He also scored 95 runs at an average of 23.75.

Maqsood acknowledged that Jamal doesn’t always bowl accurately, but stressed the importance of trusting him and giving him more overs as he can be a “wicket-taking option” for the men in green.

“Please show some more trust on Aamer Jamal. As [a] bowler lately, we have seen he isn’t bowling as much as a bowler who bowls around 90 miles should bowl. I know he isn’t that accurate but you have to have trust [in] him as [a] wicket-taking option otherwise you will always feel a bowler short. Give him [an] in and out field but make him bowl more,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Next up for Pakistan will be a two-Test series against the West Indies, which will be played in Karachi and Multan from January 16 to 28.
