Former West Indies pace bowler and renowned cricket commentator Ian Bishop believes Pakistan seamer Naseem Shah is one bowler under the age of 24 who can light up Test cricket for the next few years.
Naseem has enjoyed a lot of success in the longest format, having taken 60 wickets in 20 matches, which includes one five-wicket haul, at an average of 35.13.
The 21-year-old has already been Pakistan’s pace spearhead for a couple of years and Bishop is hoping he continues to develop his game and take even more wickets as time goes on.
Along with Naseem, Bishop also sees great potential in West Indies’ Jayden Seales, New Zealand’s Will O’Rouke and Bangladesh’s Nahid Rana.
“Four seam/fast bowlers under ‘age 24’ who ‘could’ excite Test cricket for the few years: Jayden Seales – Will O’Rourke – Nahid Rana – Naseem Shah,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Naseem recently featured in Pakistan’s limited overs series against Australia and took five wickets in three ODIs at an average of 31.60.
He then proceeded to claim one wicket in two T20Is at an average of 81.
Pakistan then travelled to Zimbabwe, but Naseem was rested for both the ODI and T20I series.
Naseem also didn’t play in the T20I series against South Africa, but returned for the three-match ODI series, where he finished with five wickets at an average of 28.
As for the ongoing two-Test series, the men in green are 1-0 down after losing the 1st Test in Centurion by two wickets.
In the 1st Test, Naseem took four wickets.
The 2nd Test began on January 3 in Cape Town, but Naseem was rested for it.
