Pakistan all-rounder Aamer Yamin has called opening batsman Abid Ali a “stylish player [and] hard-working person”.
Abid was once Pakistan’s go-to opener in Test cricket before being diagnosed with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) in December 2021.
He subsequently underwent an angioplasty and made his return to domestic cricket, where he continues to play to this day.
Ever since that major health scare, the 37-year-old has never returned to the national team despite performing exceptionally well.
Recently, Abid featured in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and accumulated 425 runs in five matches for Bahawalpur Region, which included a century and two fifties, at an average of 42.50.
Yamin lauded the Lahore native for not giving up after his ACS diagnosis and for continuing to perform well at a very high level of cricket.
“Abid bhai, great man, stylish player [and] hard-working person,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The Pakistan team recently travelled to Australia and won the ODI series 2-1 before being pummelled 3-0 in the T20Is.
They then went to Zimbabwe and triumphed 2-1 in both the ODI and T20I series.
In their ongoing tour of South Africa, the men in green lost the T20I series 2-0 before rebounding to secure a 3-0 victory in the ODIs.
As for the two-Test series, Pakistan find themselves 1-0 down after losing the 1st Test in Centurion by two wickets.
The 2nd Test got underway on January 3 in Cape Town.
