Former Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez sees real potential in up-and-coming batsman Shahzaib Khan, who he has worked with in the past.

Shahzaib, 19, has been gaining significant attention for his outstanding performances with the Pakistan Under-19 team.

During the recent Under-19 Asia Cup, he finished as the highest run-scorer with 336 runs in four matches, which included two centuries, at an average of 84.

Hafeez was particularly impressed with his performance against the India Under-19 team, where he smashed 159 runs off 147 balls, which included five boundaries and 10 sixes.

Shahzaib is now representing the Lions in the Champions T20 Cup and has amassed 76 runs in five games at an average of 19.

“Shahzaib Khan belongs to SNGPL (Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited cricket team), I have worked with him a bit… both technically and mentally. He was the only player who dominated against India,” Hafeez was quoted as saying by Khel Shel on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The Pakistan team recently took on Australia in a limited overs series and triumphed 2-1 in the ODIs before being whitewashed 3-0 in the T20Is.

As for their tour of Zimbabwe, the men in green won both the ODI and T20I series 2-1.

Pakistan are now in South Africa and lost the T20I series 2-0 before bouncing back to claim the ODI leg 3-0.

Next up will be the two-Test series, which begins on December 26 in Centurion.
