Ahmed Shehzad: “You made him captain of [the] Pakistan cricket team… just a brainless decision”

Pakistan batsman Ahmed Shehzad was less than impressed with Salman Ali Agha standing in as captain during the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, calling it “a brainless decision”.

Salman is Pakistan’s limited overs vice-captain, so when skipper Mohammad Rizwan was rested for the three T20Is against Zimbabwe, he took over as captain.

However, Shehzad doesn’t think the 31-year-old should have been in charge of the national team and questioned why he was given a leadership role in the first place.

“You made him captain of [the] Pakistan cricket team… just a brainless decision,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Salman has been involved in a lot of cricket lately as he was part of Pakistan’s tour of Australia, where he scored 12 runs in three ODIs at an average of 12.

As for the T20Is, he mustered five runs in three games at an average of 1.66.

The Lahore native fared a lot better against Zimbabwe as he made 34 runs at an average of 17.

He also took six wickets at an average of 16.83.

In the three T20Is that followed, he amassed 45 runs at an average of 22.50 and claimed two wickets at an average of 13.

Salman is now featuring in Pakistan’s tour of South Africa and kicked things off with 163 runs in three ODIs, which included a top score of 82 not out, at an average of 81.50.

In addition to this, he picked up five wickets at an average of 22.

Pakistan and South Africa will now play a two-Test series, which gets underway on December 26 in Centurion.
