Pakistan left-arm seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi has heaped praise on limited overs captain Mohammad Rizwan, saying he “always gives full authority to the bowlers to attack”.

Rizwan was named white-ball skipper in October 2024 and under his leadership, the men in green have done well so far.

They began with a 2-1 win over Australia, which was their first ODI series victory in the country since 2002.

Afridi played an instrumental role in that triumph as he took eight wickets in three matches at an average of 12.62.

Next up was a three-match T20I series, but the men in green were demolished 3-0.

In that series, Afridi was limited to one wicket at an average of 107.

Pakistan then embarked on a tour of Zimbabwe, but Afridi was rested for it.

Despite not having the 24-year-old in their squad, the men in green won both the ODI and T20I series 2-1.

While it is still early days for Rizwan as captain, Afridi made it clear that everyone is determined to help contribute to the team’s success.

“Everyone is excited under the new captain Rizwan. He always gives full authority to the bowlers to attack,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Pakistan’s next assignment will be a tour of South Africa, where they will play three T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests.

The T20I series will begin on December 10, while the ODI and Test series will get underway on December 17 and December 26 respectively.
