Mike Atherton: “I thought Aamer Jamal definitely looked like a cricketer you want to persevere with both bat and ball”

Former England captain Mike Atherton has urged Pakistan to keep selecting fast bowling all-rounder Aamer Jamal going forward.
Jamal has shown plenty of potential with both the bat and ball, which has helped him become a regular face in the Test team.
Atherton is also impressed with the 28-year-old’s resilience and passion, which have also contributed to his success thus far.
Jamal didn’t feature in Pakistan’s two-Test series against Bangladesh since he was recovering from a back injury.
However, he returned for the three-Test series against England and took one wicket at an average of 165.
The Mianwali native also scored 114 runs, which included a top score of 55 not out, at an average of 28.50.
“It was a tough first Test match for Pakistan but you find out about players in difficult games when you are up against it. I thought Aamer Jamal definitely looked like a cricketer you want to persevere with both bat and ball. He came running in during England’s 800 – not easy for any of the bowlers but he kept coming and showed some resilience and character in that second innings with the bat as well. So, definitely a cricketer to persevere with,” Atherton was quoted as saying by respected journalist Saj Sadiq on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Pakistan ended up beating England 2-1, which gave them their first Test series win on home soil since 2021.
Jamal was picked for Pakistan’s limited overs series against Australia, which consisted of three ODIs and three T20Is, but didn’t feature in any of the games.
The men in green won the ODI leg 2-1, which gave them their first ODI series win in Australia since 2002, but were beaten 3-0 in the T20Is.
Jamal has also been selected for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe, where the men in green will play three ODIs and three T20Is from November 24 to December 5.
