Pakistan batsman Usman Khan said getting selected in the ODI team is not up to him as he can only continue scoring runs in a bid to convince the selectors to give him a chance.
Usman has featured in 13 T20Is to date, but not been able to have much of an impact in those matches, amassing 176 runs at an average of 16 and a strike-rate of 127.53.
Lately, the 29-year-old has been a dominant force in domestic cricket as he was the highest run-scorer in the Champions One-Day Cup, which was a 50-over tournament held in Faisalabad.
Usman finished with 272 runs in six matches for the Panthers, which included a century and two fifties, at an average of 54.40.
He then played for Eshaal Associates in the President’s Cup Grade-I (1-Day) competition and made 230 runs in three games, which included a career-best knock of 201 not out, at an average of 115.
“My job is to perform at every opportunity I get. Getting selected for the ODI team is not in my hands. I can only work hard and the rest is in the hands of Allah,” Usman was quoted as saying by PakPassion on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The Karachi native was not picked for Pakistan’s recent two-Test series against Bangladesh, which they lost 2-0, or the three-match Test series against England, which the men in green won 2-1.
After this, Pakistan took on Australia in a limited overs series and won the ODI leg 2-1.
As for the T20I series, which Usman did play in, he scored 59 runs, which included a career-best knock of 52, at an average of 19.66.
Despite one strong performance, Usman was unable to stop Pakistan from getting whitewashed 3-0.
Next up for the men in green will be a tour of Zimbabwe, where they will play three ODIs and three T20Is from November 24 to December 5.
