Pakistan red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie believes left-arm spinner Mehran Mumtaz “has a bright future in international cricket”.
Mumtaz has yet to make his international debut, but has shown plenty of promise at the domestic level.
The 21-year-old recently featured in the Champions One-Day Cup and took seven wickets in four matches for the Stallions at an average of 22.57.
Even though the men in green have a number of exciting spinners rising up the ranks, Gillespie thinks there is something special about Mumtaz, who hails from Rawalpindi.
“Mehran has a bright future in international cricket for Pakistan,” he was quoted as saying by journalist Arfa Feroz Zake on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The Pakistan team recently took on Bangladesh in a two-Test series and were beaten 2-0 before bouncing back to take down England 2-1 in a three-Test series.
The men in green then faced Australia in a limited overs series consisting of three ODIs and three T20Is.
They won the ODI series 2-1, but failed to maintain their momentum in the T20Is as Australia whitewashed them 3-0.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a tour of Zimbabwe, where they will play three ODIs and three T20Is from November 24 to December 5.
