Former Pakistan batsman Basit Ali has called out Shan Masood, saying he has “failed” as Test captain.

Masood lost six Test matches in a row before finally claiming back-to-back wins in Pakistan’s three-Test series against England.

Despite having snapped the losing streak, Basit still feels the 35-year-old’s leadership skills are well below par.

“Shan Masood has failed as captain,” he said on his YouTube channel as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

In Pakistan’s two-Test series against Bangladesh, Masood was limited to 105 runs, which included a top score of 57, at an average of 26.25.

He then played for the Stallions in the Champions One-Day Cup, which was a domestic 50-over competition that took place in Faisalabad, and amassed 102 runs at an average of 25.50.

Following this, Masood captained Pakistan against England and finished with 225 runs, which included a top score of 151, at an average of 45.

The men in green went on to beat England 2-1, which gave them their first Test series victory on home soil since 2021.

Pakistan are now facing Australia and claimed a 2-1 in the ODIs, which was their first ODI series win in Australia since 2002.

The two sides are now playing a three-match T20I series, which Australia leads 1-0.

Afterwards, Pakistan will travel to Zimbabwe for three ODIs and three T20Is from November 24 to December 5.
