Pakistan middle order batsman Kamran Ghulam has admitted that he felt the pressure of taking Babar Azam’s spot in the Test team during the recent three-match series against England.

Ghulam was handed his debut in the second Test in Multan and made the most of his opportunity, scoring 118 off 224 balls, which included 11 boundaries and a six.

Overall, the 29-year-old from Upper Dir finished with 147 runs at an average of 49.

It should be noted that Azam did play in the first Test, where he made scores of 30 and 5, before being removed from the squad for the second and third Tests.

“Yes the pressure was there playing in his (Babar) place but I think the desire I had to succeed overrode that pressure,” Ghulam was quoted as saying by NDTV.

Both Ghulam and Azam are now involved in Pakistan’s limited overs series against Australia, which consists of three ODIs and three T20Is.

In the ODIs, Ghulam only batted once and scored five runs. Despite this, the men in green won 2-1, which was their first ODI series victory in Australia since 2002.

As for the T20Is, Pakistan find themselves 1-0 down.

After this, the men in green will head to Zimbabwe to play three ODIs and three T20Is from November 24 to December 5.
