Former England captain Nasser Hussain has hinted that Pakistan opener Saim Ayub has similar traits to the legendary Saeed Anwar.
Hussain noted that Ayub, who is one of the most promising young talents in the country, is “very pleasing on the eye” and also has “a bit of a swagger about him”.
The 22-year-0ld recently featured in Pakistan’s three-match Test series against England and scored 155 runs, which included a career-best 77, at an average of 25.83.
“He has been impressive, Saim Ayub. Pakistan have always had some very elegant left-handers. Saeed Anwar was a fantastic, elegant left-hander. Ayub has that sort of flick of the wrists and that backlift as well and a bit of a swagger about him. Very pleasing on the eye,” Hussain was quoted as saying by Grassroots Cricket on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Currently, Ayub is in action in Pakistan’s limited overs series against Australia, which consists of three ODIs and three T20Is.
The Karachi native, who made his ODI debut in the first match, has made scores of 1 and 82.
Following the tour of Australia, Pakistan will head to Zimbabwe, where they will play three ODIs and three T20Is from November 24 to December 5.
