Australia powerhouse Glenn Maxwell has admitted that it would be a mistake to underestimate Pakistan batsman Babar Azam as he is “an absolute superstar”.
Azam hasn’t been in the best of form lately as he has struggled to score runs consistently.
Despite this, Maxwell knows how good the 30-year-old, especially considering how many games he has won for Pakistan over the years.
“We definitely have to keep an eye on Babar Azam; he’s an absolute superstar,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Azam recently featured in Pakistan’s two-Test series against Bangladesh and scored 64 runs at an average of 16.
He then played for the Stallions in the Champions One-Day Cup, which was a domestic 50-over competition that took place in Faisalabad.
In four games, he amassed 230 runs, which included a century and a fifty, at an average of 76.66.
Following this, Azam took part in the first Test against England in Multan, where he made scores of 30 and 5.
The Lahore native was subsequently removed from the squad for the second and third Tests, but Pakistan still managed to win 2-1, which was their first Test series victory at home since 2021.
Azam is now involved in Pakistan’s limited overs series against Australia, which consists of three ODIs and three T20Is.
In the first ODI, which the men in green lost by two wickets, he scored 37 runs.
Following the tour of Australia, Pakistan will travel to Zimbabwe to play three ODIs and three T20Is from November 24 to December 5.
