Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Rashid Latif believes Babar Azam’s “time will come” now that he has stepped down as white-ball captain.

The 30-year-old made the announcement at the beginning of October and Latif is confident that he will start making big scores again.

Azam hasn’t been anywhere near his best with the bat over the past few months and it has really affected the men in green as they have a tendency to rely on him since he is one of their frontline batsmen.

Having taken the captaincy pressure off his shoulders, Latif reiterated that the good times will come again for Azam.

“Now Babar’s time will come as the pressure of captaincy is off,” Latif was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Azam was recently in action in Pakistan’s two-Test series against Bangladesh and scored 64 runs at an average of 16.

He then proceeded to represent the Stallions in the Champions One-Day Cup, which was a domestic 50-over competition that took place in Faisalabad.

In four games, he amassed 230 runs, which included a century and a fifty, at an average of 76.66.

After this, Azam featured in the first Test against England and registered scores of 30 and 5.

He was removed from the squad for the second Test, which Pakistan won by 152 runs, and won’t take part in the third Test either, which begins on October 24 in Rawalpindi.

Pakistan Squad for 2nd and 3rd Tests against England: Shan Masood (captain), Saud Shakeel (vice-captain), Aamer Jamal, Abdullah Shafique, Haseebullah Khan (wicketkeeper), Kamran Ghulam, Mehran Mumtaz, Mir Hamza, Mohammad Ali, Muhammad Hurraira, Mohammad Rizwan (wicketkeeper), Noman Ali, Saim Ayub, Sajid Khan, Salman Ali Agha, Zahid Mahmood.
