Jason Gillespie: “We can’t afford to have players in international cricket who are not fit or strong enough to negotiate the rigours of the game”

Pakistan red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie has made it clear that he won’t select players “who are not fit or strong enough to negotiate the rigours of the game”.
Fitness has been a key focal point of the national team following a string of disappointing results.
Given the demands of modern-day cricket, Gillespie stressed the importance of cricketers adhering to high fitness standards.
“We can’t afford to have players in international cricket who are not fit or strong enough to negotiate the rigours of the game,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Pakistan recently took on Bangladesh in a two-Test series and were whitewashed 2-0 even though both games were played on home soil in Rawalpindi.
Following this, many of the national players took part in the Champions One-Day Cup, which was a domestic 50-over competition held in Faisalabad.
The men in green are now involved in a three-match Test series against England, which is tied at 1-1.
The third Test will begin on October 24 in Rawalpindi.
