Saleem Malik: “There is no lack of talent in Pakistan but the problem is with the team selection. You can see last 5-6 tournaments as well, we have lost because of poor selection”

Former Pakistan batsman Saleem Malik believes poor selection is the key reason the national team has failed to perform well as of late.

He noted that there are so many talented cricketers in Pakistan, but many of them keep being overlooked even though some of the current players in the team are not doing their jobs.

Malik admitted that the selection policy needs to change in order for the men in green to re-establish themselves as a great side that is capable of toppling the powerhouses of international cricket.

“There is no lack of talent in Pakistan but the problem is with the team selection. You can see last 5-6 tournaments as well, we have lost because of poor selection. You can see the talent in any tournament, even [the] Champions Cup,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Pakistan recently faced Bangladesh in a two-Test series and were surprisingly crushed 2-0 even though they played both matches on home soil in Rawalpindi.

Many of the national players then featured in the Champions One-Day Cup, which was a 50-over tournament held in Faisalabad.

The men in green are now taking on England in a three-match Test series and trail 1-0 after losing the first Test in Multan by an innings and 47 runs.

The second Test got underway on October 15 in Multan.
