Pakistan spinner Shadab Khan is backing up-and-coming all-rounder Mubasir Khan to make it to the national team, saying he is “one step away” from getting there.
Mubasir has been highly impressive at the domestic level as of late and put his talent on show in the recent Champions One-Day Cup, which was a 50-over tournament held in Faisalabad.
Playing for the Panthers, the 22-year-old scored 146 runs in four matches, which included a top score of 90, at an average of 36.50.
He also took seven wickets at an average of 28.14.
Shadab, who captained the Panthers, got to see Mubasir in action firsthand and admitted that the Rawalpindi native has a bright future ahead of him if he keeps performing like this.
“Mubasir, the way he is performing in domestic and [for the] Shaheens, he is one step away from [the] Pakistan side,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Both Mubasir and Shadab were not selected for Pakistan’s two-Test series against Bangladesh, which they lost 2-0.
They also weren’t picked for the ongoing three-match Test series against England, where the men in green find themselves 1-0 down after losing the first Test in Multan by an innings and 47 runs.
The second Test got underway on October 15 in Multan.
