Danish Kaneria: “Their downfall started when they removed Sarfaraz Ahmed from captaincy, he was a perfect skipper”

Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria believes Sarfaraz Ahmed should have never been removed as captain as “he was a perfect skipper”.
Sarfaraz used to lead the men in green in all three formats until he was stripped of the leadership role in October 2019.
Since then, Babar Azam has led the team for a majority of the time over two separate stints. However, he is no longer captain in any format after recently resigning as the country’s limited overs skipper.
Considering how good Pakistan were under Sarfaraz’s leadership, Kaneria feels it was a mistake to get rid of the 37-year-old as captain.
“Their downfall started when they removed Sarfaraz Ahmed from captaincy, he was a perfect skipper. There has been a lot of politics going on in the Pakistan Cricket Board and as a result, the aura and the ambience of the team have been pathetic,” he told Zee News as quoted by Sports Tak.
Sarfaraz was part of Pakistan’s squad for the recent two-Test series against Bangladesh, but wasn’t included in the playing XI in both games as the men in green lost 2-0.
He then served as a player-mentor for the Dolphins in the Champions One-Day Cup, which was a domestic 50-over tournament held in Faisalabad.
In the one match he played, he scored five runs.
The Pakistan team are now facing England in a three-Test series, which began on October 7 in Multan.
