Former Pakistan opener Salman Butt believes star batsman Babar Azam is the “most consistent player of the decade”.

Azam, who recently stepped down as Pakistan’s limited overs captain, has long been the go-to run-scorer in all three formats and has single-handedly won numerous matches for his team.

While the 29-year-old’s form has been a little turbulent as of late, Salman can’t deny how much Azam has accomplished and still thinks he is the top batsman in the country right now.

“No doubt, he is currently Pakistan’s best batter and, I think, the most consistent player of the decade,” he was quoted as saying by A Sports.

Azam was recently in action in Pakistan’s two-Test series against Bangladesh and scored 64 runs at an average of 16.

The Lahore-born batsman then played for the Stallions in the Champions One-Day Cup, which was a domestic 50-over tournament that took place in Faisalabad.

In the four games he played, Azam amassed 230 runs, which included a century and a fifty, at an average of 76.66.

Pakistan’s next assignment will be a three-match Test series against England, which is scheduled to be held from October 7 to 28 in Multan and Rawalpindi.

Pakistan Squad for 1st Test against England: Shan Masood (captain), Saud Shakeel (vice-captain), Aamer Jamal, Abdullah Shafique, Abrar Ahmed, Babar Azam, Mir Hamza, Muhammad Hurraira, Mohammad Rizwan (wicketkeeper), Naseem Shah, Noman Ali, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Sarfaraz Ahmed (wicketkeeper), Shaheen Shah Afridi.
